BLOG POST#1 January 8th: On January 7th In my education through social media class I was assigned to create an infographic that charted my exposure to technology and social media and I really realized how reliant I am on technology. It started from a phone I got in 7th grade and my world is intertwined in it now! I am now very reliant on my phone with connections with others and with important information involving my life like bank accounts, and daily schedules. The infographic made me recall that in Junior high I was the last out of my friends to create a social media account and that I was deemed crazy for not having a desire to create one. Nowadays there are kids in elementary schools with phones and social media accounts.

I am now very grateful though for the era that I grew up in how people my age didn’t have tablets or social media account and I phone’s until later in our lives. We were in the middle of the advanced technological accessible era and we got to spend half our lives with limited technology and social media around and we saw it advance firsthand and it wasn’t bestowed on us like the youth of today.

BLOG POST#2: I learned in class the true extremity of networking in our world and how vital it is for success in society right now. That piece of information will be vital to know for me being a business major.

I learned how to also seek credentials or question news and its authenticity. Which was something I was doing before this class because media and news can be very biased and or wrong and may value views or likes rather than legitimacy. I will try my best to avoid “Fake news”. We also learned about how blogs and technology are a useful tool for education like for example, blogging. Learning to write for an audience that “doesn’t care” about your topic will influence you to write better was an arguement prsesnted bgy an article we had read. This was a view in writing that I have never thought of before. It makes total sense because your goal as a writer would be to persuade the audience to feel the way you do with strong points and structure to your blog.

The article also suggested that the younger generation rights selfishly as if the audience feels what the writer feels. So there is no drive to try to build. connection with the audience in their writing. This was something I had. not thought of before so I will try my best to avoid “selfish” writing for now on!

Blog Post #3: I have learned that the platform of social media is now becoming a source where educators incorporate their lessons on. Prior to this class none of my teachers or professors used social media in their lessons and tended to talk down upon social media usage. Although I do agree that there are negatives in social media usage but, it can be a very cool platform to converse with others and gain valuable information from.

An article I read wanted educators to embrace social media and its relevant impact in society by incorporating it into lessons and creating their assignments around social media. The argument they used was why not use a platform that is influential? There is no need to pertend it isnt there and it offers a more engaging experience and can be more relevant to the students life.

This stance by the article author made total sense to me and I have read that a lot of middle schools are doing projects based around social media. This topic brought a lot of interest to me because never would I have thought that this could happen. All of my teachers have bashed the use of social media until now, and it seems that a lot of other teachers and professors will seek to change the negative connotation social media has in school usage

Blog post #4: I learned more about net neutrality in our class. I knew a small amount upon the issue of net neutrality but was not aware of the full extent of it prior to class!

It was something that at first I thought how could this happen and in class, I learned that the public had no say in the ruling of the law but Congress did and they passed it. After class, it made total sense to me because the government has been so intertwined with internet and phone companies all throughout the last couple presidency.

Demonstrators rally in support of net neutrality outside a Verizon store, Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, in New York.

I feel that this new law is going to not turn out good for the small companies and consumers. If the potential “packaging” system is ever put into effect it could be the death of the accessible Internet.

Blog Post #5: Trolling was a topic discussed in class and I learned the origins of it on social media. It is heavily seen by me and many others on social media and to be more specific the comments. Every time I even dare to look at the comments there aren’t people there happily agreeing with each other and being open-minded to each other differences or similarity of views upon a topic. It mostly consists of trolling or arguements.

Behind the keyboard, it makes sense how one can be so rude because they don’t have the interaction physically so they feel no remorse. Trolling to me is a very harmful thing that should not be occurring in society. It is most certainly pathetic and of no need in a persons life. I myself do not feel it would affect me but, that is not the case for many others which is why it should not be apparent in society.
